H.B. stands for Herbert Bassett McClure, who began his experience in the plumbing business working for his uncle in Wooster, Ohio. In the early 1900's, for reasons unknown, Herbert left Ohio and moved to Pennsylvania. Here, he ventured into his own plumbing business known as "Modern Utility Plumbing Supply House". When the depression hit, "Modern Utility" went out of business, at which time Herbert invested in a small heating oil and coal stoker furnace company known then as "The Beaver Company". In 1931, the business was officially incorporated and became known as the H.B. McClure Company.
Tragedy struck the McClure family when Herbert's oldest son, Robert Fisher McClure, was killed during the war. After the war, his son, Bill (William E. McClure, Sr.), left his position as an Aeronautical engineer to return to Pennsylvania and help his father with the business. In 1946, Bill took over the operation of the family business, which was later passed on to his sons, William E. McClure, Jr. and Robert F. McClure. In 1984, Robert took over the operation of H.B. McClure Company.
The success of Herbert's family organization is greatly attributed to the dedication, knowledge, and attitude of the employees who have worked for H.B. McClure Company over the years. H.B. McClure Company is a family organization in which every employee is a member of the family.
Herbert's association in the plumbing and heating business that began in 1914 has grown into a thriving plumbing, heating and air conditioning service and installation business serving the Harrisburg area for over 94 years. A new generation of H.B. McClure employees are anxious to continue serving the community.
Although we've grown a lot during our 94 years - we now have dozens of employees and nearly 100 vehicles - excellent service remains the foundation of our business. We work as a team to keep you happy and comfortable. Above all, we know that it is our customers who keep us going, day in and day out. We appreciate your loyalty and trust in us.
