Ways to Reduce Utility Costs
Have your ducts cleaned to improve system efficiency (savings of up to 15%).
Install a Programmable Control to help regulate temperature while saving energy and reducing heating/cooling costs. This $150 investment (approximately) can yield big returns!
Replace your air filters monthly!
Make sure you have at least 12 to 15 inches of insulation in your attic. This will achieve an R-38 rating to keep cool air in the house and hot air out during the summer (and the reverse in winter!).
Tips for Selecting an HVAC Contractor
What's your project? New bathroom addition? HVAC system upgrade? Radiant floor heating? Geothermal heating and cooling?
Selecting the right contractor makes all the difference.
H.B. can help:
- Ask for – and call – references before hiring a contractor.
- Ask your family and friends who they recommend.
- Ask the contractor about their warranties – even on labor.
- Ask how the estimators are paid. Some are paid on commission which can impact recommendations.
- Watch how the estimator inspects your home before making a recommendation. A system that is not sized correctly for your home will not properly heat or cool your home.
